What do Potential Customers and Men Have in Common? They Both Love Food.

by Arielle Willson on October 14, 2011

When I say the words “promotional items,” it’s easy to immediately think of imprinted pens, koozies and other stereotypical “trinket” items. While there’s nothing wrong with these products, I think it’s important to shed some light on the hidden potential of promotional items.

While brainstorming promotional items, most people probably don’t think of custom Tervis tumblers or Nike polos. Although these items may be on the pricey side, they can definitely be customized with a company’s logo and would undoubtedly catch the attention of the people receiving them.

When I first entered the world of promotional items, I couldn’t believe the things that could be customized.  I’d be willing to bet that if you’d name an item, I could find a vendor that would personalize it for you. Dry-erase boards, rain boots, foam fingers, rubber thumb bracelets- you name it, I’ve seen it customized!  (I could go on for much longer, but I don’t want to give away all of my ideas).

Give the Gift of Taste
Food gifts are especially popular this time of year, and for good reason.  “Advantages” states that 79% of people who receive a customized food gift will be able to name the company that gave it to them.  Another impressive statistic:  55% of food-gift recipients will do business with a company after receiving the food gift.

These are some serious numbers when you consider how simple it can be to put together a food gift.  What can make these impressive numbers even better? Instead of aiming your promo items at one person, aim at an entire group of people. This cost-effective strategy can help your company gain maximum exposure.  Sending a gift basket to a group of people is not only less expensive than sending individual items to certain people-it also allows for more people to see your company’s gift and, more importantly, your logo.

Some Ideas for the Holidays
With the holiday season quickly approaching, there is no better time to begin planning customer or employee appreciation gifts.  While food gifts are especially popular during this time of year, the holiday season presents many opportunities for custom gifts that are sure to be noticed by the recipients.  For example, you could help your customers get prepared for the cold weather with a customized beanie or “wet wellies” footwear.

A personalized snowbrush is a practical gift that will have people thinking of your business each time they need to brush snow from their cars. If last winter is any indication, they could quickly become familiar with your business!  And, on those snowy days, what better way to help your employees warm up than by giving them a customized mug with a package of hot chocolate mix inside?

Every month of the year presents opportunities to customize something seasonal.  I’m not saying you need to customize something every single month, but there are always means of relating to what’s happening that time of year.

When used smartly, promotional items can help a company get more recognition and, ultimately, more business.  Really, is there any problem that food can’t solve?

Arielle Dunn is the promo item/apparel girl at TAG.  When she’s not researching promotional items and placing orders, she’s salivating over the goodies that vendors email her about every day.
